However, there are wood fired pizza ovens and wood fired pizza ovens. How do you select the best for you? To make it easier, let’s look at the unique features and advantages of choosing Fuego outdoor kitchen pizza ovens which you can then compare to the rest.
It might be best to start from the beginning and look at how Fuego wood fired pizza ovens are made.
The decisive component of a pizza oven is the oven itself – the dome. The design and heat retention of it is key. Fuego wood fired pizza ovens are made, by hand, by artisan Spanish craftsmen just outside of Madrid where the clay has incredible refractory properties.
Each pizza dome takes 45 days to create in 12 individual steps. It is then left to dry for over a month to avoid cracking before being baked in a kiln for 36 hours.
This makes every Fuego completely heatproof and able to retain maximum heat. Add to that the ability to tailor your oven to you and the Fuego is the obvious choice.
The key thing with a built in pizza oven outdoor kitchen is controllability. Unlike a gas pizza oven, there’s no control knob to dial up and down the temperature.
There’s an art to cooking with a Fuego, but don’t worry, it’s very easy to learn. First of all, it takes just 30 minutes to hit 200°C – twice as fast as others – and it’s built in thermometer is accurate up to 500°C.
You control the heat by opening and closing the vent or opening the oven door. You get the hang of it quickly and cooking with flames and flair soon feels completely intuitive.
The beauty of a Fuego wood fired pizza oven is that you get to specify precisely how you want it. So, you can match it to the style of your property, put your personal stamp on it and make it feel like part of your home.
We have four key styles to choose from; Clasico, Brick, Stone and Mosaic. If your home is brick-built, choose our Brick style. Stone-built? Choose our Stone oven. Contemporary rendered home? Select our Clasico or Mosaic oven style.
Add to that the other options and you’ve endless design possibilities. With our online Fuego Builder, in just 6 simple steps, you can create the Fuego that is perfectly tailored to you and adds real value to your property.
Fuego outdoor kitchen pizza ovens are extremely heavy and can weigh anything from 650kg to 2 tonnes depending on the size you choose. Therefore, they need to be machine-lifted as part of the installation process.
Before delivery and installation, you need to design and build your garden kitchen with pizza oven in advance. You can either build your own bespoke structure to house your Fuego or choose a ready-made Fuego Pizza oven table stand made from steel and the correct size, with no building work required.
If you decide to build your own outdoor kitchen with pizza oven, due to the weight of the oven, you will need to build a stable and flat structure which is either double wall concrete, brick or stone and have concrete lintels on top to provide reinforcement.
Standard height for professional kitchen work surfaces is 900mm, so when building your outdoor kitchen, allow for the 60mm thickness of the Fuego oven’s concrete base.
For a sleeker look, you may wish to hide the concrete base of your Fuego oven with say a granite top that has been templated to the shape of your oven.

Let’s face it, the Great British climate isn’t exactly great 365. So, if you want a garden kitchen with pizza oven you can cook in comfort in all year round, you may wish to install your pizza oven under the cover of an outdoor kitchen roof.
That’s not a problem, but the key thing is ensuring you have good ventilation and you have installed and commissioned the appropriate flue by an approved installer. Installing in the open air or under a pergola? Then a chimney tube and cap are perfectly fine.
If you are installing your oven under a high roof, you need a double wall fixed flue fitted by a HETAS approved local stove and fireplace installer as HETAS is recognised by building insurers. This is not only safer, it also reduces smoke in your outside kitchen.
If your Fuego wood fired oven is installed outside and is exposed to the elements, rather than being under a roof, then you will need to keep it covered when cool and not in use.
Because Fuego ovens are traditionally made with clay, it must not be exposed to moisture from constant rain as this can affect the integrity of the dome and also the masonry sealant. Waterproof covers, which fit perfectly to give you optimal protection and peace of mind
